CURRICULUM MATERIALS AND CLASSROOM LIBRARIES

School districts and individual schools are increasingly aware of the scope of literature available from publishers represented by Dodge Learning Resources and trade publishers distributed by them. Bookrooms and leveled classroom libraries are increasingly being selected and assembled from the thousands of titles designed for literacy education, content reading and language arts instruction to meet new state standards. Dodge Learning Resources now continually supplies several school districts with language arts, social studies and science literature as core programs customized to meet diverse cultures, literacy levels and needs for varied literary devices.

Some of the newest and most effective of these instructional materials originated in pedagogical research and program development from:

  • National Geographic School Publishing
  • Hampton-Brown Publishing
  • Heinemann
  • Millmark Education
  • Lerner Classroom
  • Road to Comprehension
  • Benchmark Education

And dozens of publishers of adolescent literature and children's trade books.

These core programs were designed to not only correlate to state standards, but also to comply with the standards prescribed by such programs as Reading Recovery, Literacy Collaborative, Reading First, America’s Choice and specific standards developed for individual school districts.

PROFESSIONAL BOOKS AND VIDEOS

As the need for stronger professional learning experiences is indicated at the federal, state and district levels, Dodge Learning Resources has become increasingly involved with the researchers and authors of professional books, videos and other media produced by such organizations as:

  • Stenhouse Publishing
  • Scholastic Teaching Resources
  • Pearson Education
  • Guilford Press
  • John Wiley
  • International Reading Association (IRA)
  • Jossey-Bass
  • National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
  • Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)

And with many professional development presenters, authors and researchers, directly.

Materials, programs and courses developed by these organizations are excellent resources which keep teachers up to date with the most effective teaching methods recognized worldwide. Dodge Learning Resources is pleased to have become a conduit of information about these resources and a supplier of materials that help meet today’s professional learning needs.

ADOLESCENT AND CHILDREN'S LITERATURE

Many trade books fit into language arts, science, social studies or mathematics curriculum. They can be useful in meeting standards missed by textbooks. Dodge Learning Resources offers either bulk or individual purchases at a 30% discount from publishers’ suggested prices on all fiction, nonfiction, reference, and poetry titles from a seemingly infinite number of trade publishers, including:

  • Candlewick Press
  • Creative Teaching Press
  • Aladdin Books
  • Boyds Mill Press
  • Charlesbridge
  • Harper Collins
  • Harcourt
  • Houghton-Mifflin
  • Jossey-Bass
  • McGraw-Hill

And dozens of other trade book producers.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Dodge Professional Learning provides professional development workshops and courses for educators, pre-K through grade 12. Topics include: early literacy, integrated language arts instruction (grades 4-8), English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), writing instruction, classroom management, differentiated instruction strategies, and several major topics in teaching standards-based mathematics instruction. Workshops are held at district meeting sites, individual schools and at private venues such as hotels and conference centers throughout the southeast.

In response to the diverse needs of several school systems, the employees at Dodge Learning Resources developed and managed the Georgia Conferences on Teaching Writing and Reading, which are held in June each year at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agri-Center. In 2004, this conference was attended by approximately 900 teachers and instructional leaders who participated in workshops led by master teachers, educational researchers and authors of professional books, children’s books and books for adolescents.
